We will send our online judges a package of several short films in December, as well as a ‘how-to’ guide showing them what to look out for and how to rate the films.

To apply, students should email submissions@watersprite.org.uk with the words ONLINE JUDGE in the subject line.

This is also an excellent opportunity to remind you that there are only TWO WEEKS LEFT until the Watersprite submissions window closes, so please tell your students to submit their films if they haven’t already!

Intends to promote shorts that discuss and evoke issues affecting our lives. Objective is to sensitise young filmmakers to stimulate greater public debate where ideas are expressed cinematically evolved from real life. The project is generously supported by Yes Foundation and in collaboration with Goethe Institut, Kolkata.

Selected filmmakers will be invited for two-tire mentoring sessions.

The first session – 15 filmmakers will be invited for three days idea development lab where 5 projects will be selected for commissioning.

The second session – once the rough cut is made, filmmakers attend another rigorous mentoring session to fine-tune the films under the guidance of an expert team consisting of editor/filmmakers.

The films will be premiered during DocedgeKolkata, Asian Forum for Documentary on 5th March 2016. DRI will try to ensure maximum outreach of these shorts through various digital platforms.

To enter, students should go to www.watersprite.org.uk/submissions and upload their film.

Watersprite is an international competition for student shorts. We discover and champion emerging student talent, and award industry-specific prizes to kickstart professional careers.

The Festival is free to enter, and our bursary scheme brings shortlisted filmmakers to attend the festival, hosted at the University of Cambridge. We invite those shortlisted filmmakers to join our online filmmaker forum, where they meet and connect with other young filmmakers from around the world.

Past winners include Will McGregor, who has gone on to secure BFI funding to develop a script with Watersprite Festival Chair, Hilary Bevan-Jones, as well as direct award-winning shows on British television. He is just one of our success stories. Over the years we've consistently provided a platform to transform student filmmaking into professional careers.

We very much admire the work coming out of Universidade Lusofona de Humanidades e Tecnologias. We have received high-quality submissions from your filmmakers in the past and we hope to do so again this year.

Attached is an information leaftlet about Watersprite that we hope  you will circulate amongst your students.

Please let us know if you would like physical versions of the information leaflets, or a festival poster, as we'd be happy to send additional materials over to you.

Submissions have opened today and will close at midnight on Sunday 22nd November - so tell your students to get applying!
